A memorandum of intent to cooperate for the foundation of a maritime service cluster was signed

The round table “Maritime service industry”

On May 16, 2019, the Business Support Center in Mykolaiv, within the EU initiative EU4Business with the support of the EBRD in Ukraine, organized a round table “MARITIME SERVICE INDUSTRY”. The event was a part of the annual meeting of the European maritime community European Maritime Day (EMD), co-founded by the European Council, the European Parliament, and the European Commission in 2008 within the framework of the EU maritime policy for the exchange, discussion, and preparation of joint action.


The event took place for the second time. In 2018, following a discussion of the current state of the maritime service industry in the South of Ukraine, analysis of the situation in the field of small shipbuilding and service in Ukraine, discussion of existing opportunities and obstacles for developing this business, a working group was formed. The working group prepared the concept of cluster foundation. It created an active of enterprises ready to join together in a cluster to develop industry and their own business. The meeting allowed participants to discuss the context of the maritime service in Ukraine, the current opportunities and obstacles for developing this business, and the model of stakeholders’ cooperation to develop the industry. The participants are aware of the need to combine efforts for the shipbuilding and ship repair development in the region, to establish a constructive dialogue between the business of this industry and the authorities, to eliminate legal support shortcomings in the enterprises’ operations, educational processes in the industry, and the solution of common issues.

A Memorandum of Intent to cooperate for the foundation of a maritime services cluster was signed between:

  • Mykolaiv City Council;
  • Mykolaiv Regional Business Support Center;
  • Shipbuilding ship repair company “Nikolaev shipyard “LLC;
  • Mykolaiv Shipyard Okean LLC;
  • The Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding;
  • C-Job Mykolaiv LLC;
  • Marine Design Engineering Mykolayiv LLC;
  • Artil LTD LLC;
  • Magistral Pivden LLC.
The memorandum is open to be signed by other companies ready to unite for the regional industry of maritime services development.
