As we mentioned in the previous publications, the Ukrainian Maritime Cluster participates in the 4BIZ
4BIZ project (Boosting the Blue Economy in the Black Sea Region by Initiating a Business Collaboration Framework in the field of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Coastal and Maritime Tourism and Maritime Transport). The 4BIZ aims to develop a collaboration framework that will bring together blue economy stakeholders in Black Sea countries to identify and tackle local capacity building needs to boost innovation, digitalization and investment in the Black Sea blue economy with the main focus on fisheries and aquaculture, coastal and maritime tourism and maritime transport.
The project was created to guide stakeholders from academia, funding agencies, industry, policy and society to address together the fundamental Black Sea challenges, to promote blue growth and economic prosperity of the Black Sea region, to build critical support systems and innovative research infrastructure. The Blue Economy has a great potential for the Black Sea countries and for Europe as a whole as it can be considered an instrument to promote cooperation, stability and empower the coastal communities in the region. While the Black Sea is a unique sea basin that is rich in biodiversity, heritage and natural resources, the basin is increasingly under pressure due mainly to impacts from human-induced factors, that is considered to be the main cause for the degradation of the Black Sea marine ecosystem, which has undergone dramatic changes since the early 1970s. Therefore, the Black Sea, with its marine basin and coastal socioeconomic systems combined, can be considered a natural laboratory of global significance, for fundamental science, sustainability policy and the Blue Economy.
In order to identify the key players of the industry, a survey was launched as part of the project. The results will be a guide for further research and development in the direction of the outlined goals. We await the results of the survey and will keep abreast of the progress of the project.
The 4BIZ is funded by the European Commission, through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) program, and has a duration of 24 months.
