The Blue Economy: Defining Perspectives and Agenda for Innovation Clusters and Technology Business Communities

The blue economy is an important part of a sustainable world economy in preventing negative climate changes and preserving sea and oceanic expanses. Together with the green deal, the blue economy is shaping the EU’s strategic course for decades to come. At the initiative of the European Commission, Ukraine has joined the initiative of the Fund for the Development of the Blue Economy in the Black Sea, in which Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Russia are also involved. One of the main goals of the initiative is to control the pollution of the Black Sea, where the amount of garbage is almost twice as high as in the Mediterranean. The Government Office for Coordination on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Foreign Affairs, Environment and Natural Resources, and other government agencies are involved in supporting this initiative.

At the same time, the topic of the “Blue Economy” goes beyond ecology and climate change. We are also talking about renewable energy, new sources of food chains, biotechnology, tourism, research, and the corresponding implementation of the principles of the circular economy in all stakeholders. In the EU programs, innovation clusters and technology business communities play an increasing role in the deployment and implementation of such initiatives.

So what is the role and prospects in the blue economy for Ukrainian innovation clusters and business associations? How do they integrate into the global, European and Black Sea agendas and which are their own initiatives?

The discussion on these topics will take place on September 1 at the round table of the Trans Expo Odessa exhibition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
