Digital roundtable on the maritime sector, which explored potential synergies between Ukraine and Norway in this field, was held on October, 23.
The event was initiated to establish connections with counterpart organizations in Norway and Ukraine, with the aim of fostering potential cooperation, drawing inspiration, and adapting best practices. The event was organized by the Norwegian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the Ukrainian Maritime Cluster.
Igor Lysytskyi, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Maritime Cluster, informed about the current state of development of the maritime sector of Ukraine, key trends, opportunities and challenges.
Key trends
✅Small craft shipbuilding continues to function.
✅Some success, regarding offshore unmanned systems creation has been demonstrated.
✅Some design bureaus have experience interacting with foreign customers (for example: Marine Design Engineering Mykolayiv LLC, C-Job Nikolayev LLC)
✅During construction, imported materials and components, electronics, propulsion, controls and navigation, are used.
Main opportunity: Creation of joint value chains within priority segments.
Igor Lysytskyi also expressed the opinion that the important goal of this meeting is to create a basis for deepening cooperation in the maritime sector.
Kjartan Tveitnes, managing director of the Norwegian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce (NUCC), spoke about the history and traditions of Norwegian-Ukrainian cooperation in the maritime sector. The past experience of cooperation in the maritime sector between Norway and Ukraine, financing opportunities and the potential of future cooperation were discussed.
“The Nensen Support Program for Ukraine” was also discussed during the meeting. This program is initiated for civilian and military support programme of NOK 75 billion covering the period 2023-2027. The distribution between civilian and military support is determined annually in line with Ukrainian needs. In 2023, approximately NOK 19.9 billion was distributed through the Nansen Support Programme: NOK 8.9 billion in civilian and humanitarian support and NOK 11 billion in military support.
Representatives from Oslo Shipowners’ Association, Stiftelsen Maritime Bergen, Renewable Energy Cluster (RENERGY), Maritime CleanTech, Kongsberg Maritime, STIFTELSEN NORSK MARITIM KOMPETANSE, Bergen Chamber of Commerce also took part in the round table
