Development of industrial ecosystems and value chains – in the framework of Ukrainian cluster week 2021

On April 26-28 took place a large-scale event for the cluster community of our country – Ukrainian Cluster Week 2021. The ultimate goal of the event was launching a regular experience exchange of 15 clusters of Ukraine and Eastern Europe in cluster development of industrial and high-tech segments.

The event was initiated by the business community of Ukraine with the support of GIZ-Ukraine, organized by the Industry4Ukraine platform, the Cluster Committee and APPAU.

For participation were invited the next organizations: industrial and high-tech clusters, government representatives and other policy makers at the national and regional levels: business support organizations, development and innovation agencies, research and educational institutions.

On April 26 at the first day of Cluster Week, moderated by Denis Bazylevych and Oleksandr Yurchak, the presentation of cluster policies of Eastern Europe and Eastern Partnership (EaP), political instruments in the context of cluster development, cluster Speed dating (3-minute presentation of each cluster) , as well as a panel discussion “Cluster policies in the Eastern Partnership countries in comparison with European countries: identifying gaps and ways to close them” took place. “Clustering and digitalization of small and medium enterprises” – this was the topic of the second day of Cluster Week, moderated by Alexander Yurchak and Ivan Kulchinsky. During the day there were numerous reports on digital landscapes for industrial SMEs in Eastern Europe and EaP countries, digital institutions and tools, two panel discussions: “‘State of digitalization in manufacturing SMEs in EaP countries” and “What should be right model of networking of Digital Centres in Eastern Europe”. The closing day of Cluster Week (April 28) was announced as “Development of Industrial Ecosystems”. The reports were devoted to the involvement of small and medium enterprises in industrial ecosystems, cases of regional industrial ecosystems development, and a panel discussion “Building inter-regional industrial ecosystems”.

Ukrainian Maritime Cluster is among the active participants of the event. On the third day of Cluster Week (April 28) Olena Zhukova – an acting Director of the UMC – made a report “Maritime industry strategies: from regional to inter-regional cooperation” in the block “Case studies in development of regional industrial ecosystems”. The speaker outlined the state of the maritime industry of Ukraine, presented to the participants the Ukrainian Maritime Cluster of Ukraine (UMC), its main projects, measures to promote cluster activities, as well as emphasized the development priorities with a course on internationalization.
